History of Dynamics 365 Business Central In Brief

The history of Dynamics 365 Business Central can be traced back to 1984 when PC Plus was launched by a company named PC & C A/S based out of Denmark and Norway. The character-based accounting solution PC-plus ran on MS-DOS and was designed for the Small Office Home Office (SOHO) segment. The company launched the Navision accounting system three years later.

Microsoft acquired Navision A/S and made it a part of its Business Solution division. Over the years, Navision went through many name changes. They include Navision Financials, Navision Attain, Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision, etc. In September 2005, the product was rebranded by Microsoft and re-released as Dynamics NAV. Microsoft continued to release updated versions of Dynamics NAV till 2018.

Meanwhile, in 2016, the company announced that it was creating Dynamics 365 and this was followed by the release of the Business Central in 2017. Finally, towards the end of 2018, Microsoft released Dynamics 365 Business Central. The latest version is 15.0 and was released in October 2019.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central offers the rich functionality that Dynamics NAV was known for and complete flexibility for deployment on-premises or in the cloud. Their comprehensive business management software solution is designed for small and medium-sized businesses.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central – What Has Changed with Re-branding

The overriding reason as to why Microsoft re-branded Dynamics NAV was to deliver connected business systems. The way Power BI sits within Dynamics 365 Business Central makes all the difference. Further, the connected systems make it easy for users to search for extensions and add them to their system. Microsoft also wanted the ERP solution to deliver many more capabilities to the users. Dynamics Business Central is so much faster, more interactive, and ensures that users get tangible benefits on their terms. Another reason for re-branding is to phase out NAV’s C/AL language and move over to the latest and new AL language.
